Campfire – Out Now!

Posted on July 19, 2018

Oi Oi!

Finally, here is the video for my new track, Campfire. It’s a bit different from my usual sound and I know that might not be to everyone’s taste. I’m not trying to reinvent myself like Cher or anything, it’s just a natural change that came in the studio.

Me and my pal Steve (the one I’m bullying in the video) took a drive up to Glasgow to record with my pal Jono. There was zero preproduction. We had a basic acoustic track that I had written and toured a little bit around Europe, but that was it.

We sat up eating Italian food and drinking whisky, and this is what we got. I hope you like it.

It’s available at all the usual culprits, but best of all is my Bandcamp page. They rob less off me!

The Voice…

Posted on June 27, 2013 1 Comment

Hey folks,

A week or two ago, I was approached by The Voice, asking me to perform on the show.

I gave it a fair bit of thought, as personally, I thought it might be a great platform for me to reach a wider audience with my music.

Obviously I was aware that I may lose a fair amount of credibility, but I figured that as long as I was true to myself, and the positives far outweighed the negatives, then that wasn’t particularly important.

See that’s what makes me laugh about people that say you’re a ‘SELL OUT’ if your music gets picked up by the mainstream music system. They are the same people that complain that there is no decent music in the mainstream. Well. I’m afraid you can’t have both.

I would have sold out if I changed my music to fit into the mainstream mould. If I stayed true to my music, and broke into the mainstream, I would not be a sell out. I would simply have more listeners.

This was what I needed to find out.

Having read the shows small print, and talked to people that know about the set up of the show (I’ve never seen it) I realised that unfortunately, although it would be a great platform, I would have to go against my principles, to be on the show, and would therefore be selling out.

I would have to sing covers, and ‘battle’ other performers. That isn’t what I stand for, and so unfortunately, I won’t be appearing on your TV sets in the near future.

I would like to say a massive thank you to the producers of the show though. I am flattered to have been invited, and I’m flattered you came and watched me perform at the Isle of Wight Festival. It’s a massive confidence boost!

I think when you look deep inside yourself, long after the fame, money, and kudos have dried up, you’re left with your morals and your principles.

They are your ‘pension’. They keep you warm in old age, and without them, you are nothing.

Fame and money are not my goal. My goal is to be me. But the best me I can possibly be.

Whether that leads me to an early grave, a bedsit in Eastbourne, or a houseboat in the Cotswolds, I will still have me. In the purest form possible.

I hope people can understand that.

Much love!

How NOT to be a Rock Star – AVAILABLE NOW!

Posted on September 6, 2012 Leave a Comment

Hey guys and girls,

My debut publication ‘How NOT to be a Rock Star’ is available now.

Here is the blurb…

“How NOT to be a Rock Star tells the extraordinary few years of Gareth Icke’s life on the road with his band Kody.
From witnessing murders and being accused of terrorism, to amputation and break ins; this band saw it all, drank it all, and lived to tell the tale.

This insight into the hearts, minds and memories of a young band doing what they do is both eye wateringly funny and ultimately worrying.

Sometimes, stories have to be heard to be believed and trust me, this book is full of them.

I should know, I was there at the time and I still can’t believe some of the stuff we saw!

Sit back, grab yourself a drink, and welcome to our World.”

Tim Pritchard – Kody Guitarist

The book will be available in book stores very soon. Until then, it is available online. Click here to purchase the book.

Hope you enjoy! x

Signing on the dotted line…

Posted on July 19, 2012 1 Comment

Hey everyone,

Hope you’re all good.

My contract arrives in the morning for the UK release of ‘A Brand New Battle’. I have to go through it and sign, but we’ve been talking for a while and I’m sure there will be no problems.

The label is called Eromenos Media and is based in Manchester. It’s only a UK release. This means in will only be available in record shops up and down the UK. Unfortunately all you guys outside the UK will still have to purchase CDs from the website. I’ll send a personalised message or something to make you feel special. 🙂

Or of course, you can download from itunes, amazon etc…

The album is earmarked for release on September 17th, with a London show to promote the release on September 21st.

It’s only at the planning stage as I haven’t signed yet. But like I said, I don’t foresee any issues.

I’ll then be off on tour throughout October. I’ll be mainly playing Universities before ending the UK tour with a massive show at Wembley Arena on October 27th.

As soon as the dates are confirmed, I’ll let you know.

I’m really excited about what we can create here. Eromenos are a small up and coming company, full of drive and passion. That’s exactly what I wanted. So many bands sign to major labels and then sit on the back burner while the label focuses on their ‘major’ acts.

Plus, to be honest, with my surname, I could write Rubber Soul and I wouldn’t get a look in. You may not know this but a music investment company in London offered me £100,000 to release my first album, It gets worse at night. That was on the table on the condition that I changed my surname. As you can see by the name of my website, that didn’t happen. One thing I’m not, is a sell out. I’d rather be poor and look my maker in the eyes thanks.

Another great thing about Eromenos is they are a media company and film makers aswell. We’re already talking to a director about the next singles video.

It’s more than likely going to be ‘What’s love without meaning’. But that’s open to suggestion.

When I sign, I’ll be sure to post a staged signing photo. You know the annoying pose that footballers pull when they’re signing for a new club. Yeah, one like that.

Have been writing loads in the last few days. All very melancholic. I’m thinking I might get into a studio and make an acoustic album before I start work on another album proper. If these songs were the follow up to ‘A brand new battle’, I think I’d alienate any new listeners I got!

It’s been a pretty hard year so far. So the songs reflect that. A lot of pain and anger in the lyrics. I like the songs though and don’t want to waste them. I think an acoustic album would be a good idea. I’ll just give them away or something. But not to people that are contemplating suicide. I’ll probably send you over the edge!

Have my first gig since I moved, on Sunday. Playing the Pitcher & Piano in Derby. It’s just me an a couple of mates, playing some acoustic sets each.

It’s completely free and kicks off at 6:30. If you can make it, come say hey.

Anyway, I best go. The swimming pool is calling my name.

Be safe. x

Germany Treatment, Film Soundtracks & Isle of Wight Festival…

Posted on June 7, 2012 1 Comment

Prost!

I don’t have a lot of internet availability in Germany, but I’ve managed to get some wifi for a few minutes.

I’m over in a town about an hour from Stuttgart getting treatment on my leg, and my spine.

Physically I’m a bit of a mess. When a woman that treats people that have been in wheelchairs for 30 years, looks at your spine, and says “Wow!”, you know you have issues.

I have/had vertebrae that were out of place and a spine as crooked as a politician. The ‘problem’ is, after years of playing through pain, and 5 surgeries, my pain threshold is through the roof. While that sounds like a positive thing, it isn’t.

Because I learnt to ignore the pain, I never did anything about is. Just got on with it. So 3 of my vertebrae, one rib and my sacrum have been completely in the wrong place for the best part of 25 years.

Yesterday I had all those vertebrae moved, and put back where they should be, while concious, and with no pain relief. If I had to describe the pain, it would be in BLOCK CAPITALS and contain quite a lot of swear words.

My back in agony, but my posture is correct and after another treatment today (that I’m dreading), I’ll be fixed and painfree for the first time in living memory.

Another thing, a bit random. When I woke this morning, I walked down to the hotel lobby to get tucked in to some food. I was quickly pointed towards the garden…where I saw this…

A leopard just pacing around the garden…

Just rolling about…

ANOTHER. NORMAL. DAY.

Yesterday, they played a film here in Germany. It was a film about the new technology they’ve been developing to regenerate spinal columns and muscle fibres.

The film features Windsurfing World Champions, Surfers, NBA Basketball players like Chicago Bulls Joakim Noah, and yours truly. Remember Who You Are was used as the main soundtrack of the film. Was pretty amazing to watch a film, in another Country, using your music. Very proud.

On the music front, I’ve been confirmed for this years Isle of Wight Festival. I’ll be playing on the Life’s A Beach stage again. As soon as I get the times, I’ll post them up.

I’m off to chill in the sun. The calm before the back breaking storm.

Swim time people!

Posted on August 8, 2011 Leave a Comment

Hello all.

The time is almost here for me to swim the Solent. This Saturday at 10 am I will be setting off from Hurst Castle to take on 1.5 miles of 9 knot rip tides to make it back to my Island.

The reason I am doing this is for a very special chap named Lewis Mighty. He needs help to get treatment for a form of cancer called Neuroblastoma. This form of cancer mainly attacks under 5s such as Lewis. Please check outwww.lewismightyfund.org.uk for more information.

We’re trying our hardest to raise as much money as possible and any donation you can make will be greatly received. Simply click here to donate.

In light of this massive challenge, this Thursdays G and Tippers Show theme will be challenges & dreams. We want to hear about your biggest life challenges. Whether it be getting out of bed on a Sunday or climbing Ben Nevis. What do you find a challenge?

Also, we want to hear about your dreams. We want the weirdest, scariest and most sexually deviant thoughts that pass through your brain while you’re sleeping.

Tweet us at www.twitter.com/gandtippers or email gandtippers@vectisradio.com.

Peace. x

I am still alive people!

Posted on August 2, 2011 Leave a Comment

Hey all,

I’m sorry I’ve been crap on the posting front. I have been on holiday in Greece for the last little while. It was a nice little break that turned out to be more carnage than relaxing getaway.

I’m back now though and nearly recovered from all the 20 pint a day massacres. I now need to concentrate on the swim and getting myself ready for recording and the new football season.

I’m back in the studio with Guy Page and the lads on the 16th to start work on track number two of album number two. Adrienne is already recorded and mixed so that’s a positive start.

This record will sound very different to the last one but hopefully not so different that you won’t ‘get’ it. So much has happened since I released ‘It gets Worse At Night’ that to be honest, I hardly recognise myself. I am no longer that naive, positive, “everything will be alright” kind of character. I am twenty nine and am well aware now that it won’t be alright. BUT…that doesn’t mean I won’t give it my all to ensure it’s as near to alright as possible.

Positivity minus denial. That could be a good album title if I didn’t already have it chosen.

I stepped back in the pool for the first time since holiday yesterday and banged out a pretty rapid 50 lengths just to get myself warmed up and back into it. I swim on August 13th so the date is fast approaching.

I thought I’d be a lot more nervous than I am but I feel pretty calm about it. I am not taking it for granted and I am well aware just how difficult it will be. But I’ve beaten harder things than a 9 knot rip tide and I have no intention of becoming a failure any time soon.

Please check out the swim page and be as generous as possible. Click here.

I have my first pre-season friendly of the season tonight. I’m not sure 8 days in Stalis was great preparation.  I’ll whack some pics at the bottom and you can be the judge.

Also, I have a couple more shows booked so check out the Gigs page!

Peace. x

This is what happens when I’m left alone…

Posted on July 5, 2011 Leave a Comment

Hello all,

My Mrs is away tanning herself in Greece, so I’m left alone to my own devices. Now normally what you’d expect is for me to take the time to write new material and concentrate on productive things to keep my mind from wondering.

A mans mind does crazy things when his Mrs is out of reach. I think at about 4am this morning I was picturing her making love to another man while laughing at a photo of me. I am insane.

So…my album is written and currently being recorded so no productivity needed there. Instead… I’ve built this…

Note the big TV with FIFA, the small portable with TV on, the laptop set up, an Xbox chair, and just out of shot, a bottle of red wine.

While this is somewhat lonely, I bet you fellas are a little bit jealous!
